    A small summary for whoever wonders like me: the depth is 24", the diameter is a little over 12", both can be very dependent on the local code.

    Those simpson anchors might fail inspection, you need a tension tie on the top of two galv or ss 1/2" thru bolts from rim/band through guard post to adjacent blocking + joist. Especially over 30" deck height.

    Devon and linzy have done an excellent video,very informative and Devon explains the job very well and is easy to understand. I have noticed that they did not have an overhang on the first step coming down off the deck. I understand that this is a code violation because the very first run down will be 3/4” short because the run is measured horizontally down from the step above.

    I understand "code" mandates gap between deck and pool edge, BUT what about space needed to get winter cover over top and down side of pool ? Pools in north are actually covered more then half the year.

    Excellent presentation for installation of deck rail posts including how to handle out of plumb posts and using temporary boards to hold post and blocking. Sigh. This gets a fair bit harder to do when the deck is already down and you are replacing half cut outside fascia mounted posts with full inside posts.

    My porch has two Posts 10 ft apart and one 4 ft apart. Each end of the railing, top and bottom, would attach to the post. Its a small Porch but my husband is disabled and needs the railing to keep him from falling off the porch. If i had a 10 ft section I could do these myself. 😢

    You have exposed cuts on your stairs. Maybe you could bevel the riser cuts on the fascia and bevel the riser board ends for a clean finish. You're to good to have this kind of fail. No exposed cuts allowed my friend.

He is attaching a beam to the upper deck post using a hangar HUC210-2Z. My question is, if the beam needed to be turned 90 degrees because the deck boards were running away from the house, how would he make the connection?

    Is it possible to install a cocktail rail on top of the Enhance Railing? If so, what additional parts are needed?

    • @TheTrexCo
      @TheTrexCo Місяць тому

      HI there! You can certainly install a cocktail railing on the Enhance railing. You would be using the 3/4" screws that are included in the kit to fasten the board to the railing. Beyond that you shouldn't need any additional hardware. Keep in mind that you cannot use the Enhance line of decking as a cocktail rail due to the scallops on the bottom of the boards so you would need to choose a board from the Select, Transcend, or Signature lines of decking.

  • @ksiverd
    @ksiverd Місяць тому

    Very helpful, however, at 7:33 when you're showing a small gap to catch the boards as they reach the breaker board... how do you properly attach joists to the ledger so close together? Is there a special bracket?

    • @TheTrexCo
      @TheTrexCo Місяць тому

      Hello Ksiverd, I hope this message finds you well today. With those joists and blocking joists so close together, it is an interesting time getting all the necessary hardware that close. We started from the inside out and installed a joist hanger on the joist and attached it to the ledger. Then the next joist we cut just slightly shorter (about an 1/8”). Then we installed a Simpson Strong Tie L-70z onto the joist and had it face away from the adjacent joist. We then installed the nails through the L-70z into the ledger as it was outside the edges of the nearest joist hanger. Then the process was repeated on the opposite side. Please let us know if you have any additional questions or if I may be of further assistance. Kindly, Jaclyn Goodrich Trex Customer Care

    • @TheTrexCo
      @TheTrexCo Місяць тому

      Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. We chose to do 2 beams for two reasons. The customer requested absolutely no bounce as they have parties with quite a few people. Additionally, the two beams also gave us the opportunity to shoot multiple shots for our how-to videos. You could follow your local guide for a 2x8 or 2x10 to span and only have one beam if you desired. ~ Trex Customer Care Team

    suppose.... you wanted to make this deck example handicap accessible? Where would you plan putting access ramps into this design? I realize this was prob. not part of the scope of this deck, so if you were designing with this in mind- what could you think of that might be important?

    • @TheTrexCo
      @TheTrexCo Місяць тому

      Since wheelchairs can get caught on slight dips in a surface, we recommend using a joist spacing of 12" on center when constructing the ramp. At 12" spacing the support per chair wheel would be 125 lbs. The shorter span will provide a stiffer surface Trex products have proved successful for both walking surfaces and means of egress. We do not have ramp specs to share, however you can visit the following site for information. www.wikihow.com/Build-a-Wheelchair-Ramp. Please check with your local building office for local codes and building permits. If you have any other questions feel free to reach out.-Trex customer care 1(800)-289-8739
